TELEMED MUSIC WELCOMES YOU

Quality Care You Can Count On From Anywhere

WHAT IS TELEMED MUSIC?

Using the power of music for change to help you and your loved ones

Telemed Music provides virtual telehealth music therapy sessions and adaptive lessons.  Virtual services means that even the most remote areas or those who have limited mobility or transport have access to music therapy.  Virtual telehealth sessions are the same high-quality MT services as in-person sessions but with the added convenience and flexibility of scheduling face-to-face sessions no matter where you are in the world!

If you would prefer in-person sessions for you or your loved one, Telemed Music can also connect you with an in-person therapist in your area.

Music therapy addresses non-musical goals using music interventions.  Here are some examples of what can be addressed during virtual telehealth music therapy sessions:

  • Active listening to familiar and preferred songs to evoke positive mood states

  • Music interactions to support social engagement, communication and other cognitive goals

  • Songwriting for self-expression

  • Music and movement exercises for rehabilitation

  • Guided relaxation to ease anxiety and stress

  • Support through life transitions

Each intervention will be assessed in the moment to ensure maximum benefit and safety for each client(s).  Find out more about the specific populations we work with in the music therapy section.

Telemed Music offers flexible scheduling and payment on a sliding scale.  Visit our rates section to find out more.

WHY IS MUSIC THERAPY AN EFFECTIVE MEDIUM?

Music Therapy is an allied health profession used in health care, education systems, corporations, and private residences/agencies to support individuals of any age or stage of life.

Music therapists use music-centered interventions and counseling skills within the context of a therapeutic relationship to help clients achieve their health and wellness goals. Music Therapy is a professional scope of practice requiring university-level training and certification. In the US, certification is identified with the credential MT-BC by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.

Music is a unique medium because humans are intrinsically musical.  Music therapy taps into that and it is the job of the music therapist to work in the moment to achieve each individual's full potential and benefit from each session.

"Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears - it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many, music is even more - it can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity."
